Lesson 2 - General Greetings

When learning any languages, greetings are extremely important as it would most probably be the first words you will use when encountering someone using that language. No exception for Chinese too, you just have to drill these words into your mind - no shortcuts, just practise and practise.

1. 你好！(ni3 hao3) - Hello, Hi.
2. 大家好！(da4 jia1 hao3) - Hello everyone.
3. 你好吗？(ni3 hao3 ma1) - How are you?
4. 我很好！(wo3 hen3 hao3) - I am fine!
5. 谢谢！(xie4 xie4) - Thanks.
6. 谢谢你！(xie4 xie4 ni3) - Thank you.
7. 再见！(zai4 jian4) - Bye!
8. 不好意思！(bu4 hao3 yi4 si4) - Excuse me (To call for someone's attention)
9. 对不起！(dui4 bu4 qi3) - Sorry!

Here's a sample conversation:

林：你好！我 是 林老师。(lin2: ni3 hao3! wo3 shi4 lin2 lao3 shi1) - Lin: Hi! I am teacher Lin.
陈：你好！我 是 陈医生。(chen2: ni hao3! wo3 shi4 chen2 yi1 sheng1) - Chen: Hi! I am Dr. Chen.
