Lesson 14 - Adverbs

Adverbs are words that describe verbs. In Chinese, adverb words and adjective words are the same. For example, 慢 can mean slow (adjective) and can also mean slowly (adverb).

Let's learn some adverbs.

1. 快 (kuai4) - quickly

2. 慢 (man4) - slowly

3. (很)大声 (hen3 da4 sheng1) - loudly

4. (很)小声 (hen3 xiao3 sheng1) - quietly, softly

To attach adverbs, use "得" (de2).
1. 他 走得 快。(ta1 zou3 de2 kuai4) - He walks quickly.
2. 小明 吃得 很快。(xiao3 ming2 chi1 de2 hen3 kuai4) - Xiao-Ming eats very quickly.
